Repeat Offender

I'm really sorry for posting again on something I've already blogged on. But I found something that was just too great to pass up.

Ok, so you have this comic:

So like in the last blog, people think it's funny when you erase Garfield's thought bubbles. It changes the nature of the comic, and makes Jon look like a crazy person that talks to his cat:

Ok, now the article I read wondered what would happen when you just totally erase Garfield from the comic:

So another thing I found was this website that lets you change what Albert Einstein writes on a chalkboard instead of E=mc^2. I'll let the image speak for itself:

And I've got one more. I found another website that takes an image, finds all the curves and figures in it, and then replicates it using only text strings. Here's an emo one that I made with it of a rose with the text "I miss you.":

That's it.

Anakin Lachica?

Hey, I'm back, and this time with a longer post.

Lifehacker is a really amazing website you should all visit sometime. It has a lot of neat little ways to improve your productivity, or just something to try out that's fun, like how to make your own secret compartment by cutting all the pages out of a book. Once again, they came through with something I can actually blog about.

I read this article that teaches you to make lightsabers in photoshop.

I bet you know what's coming next.

Yeah......it went there. I know the quality of my camera really makes the picture look bad, but look at it this way:

There's a friggin lightsaber in the picture.

Speaking of which.....

So it was a real pain trying to translate the Photoshop instructions into GIMP2.0, because a lot of the menu options aren't the same. What I ended up doing was downloading a script that just has you select where the blade is, and then does the rest for you. I was a little disappointed with it, because it wasn't as bright a blade as I wanted, so I tried to apply the script more than once. If anything, all it did was make it dimmer. If anyone wants to try this with photoshop and tell me if it comes out better, please try.

So on the BART to Target when I went with Lauren, she came up with THE COOLEST IDEA for a photoshop picture. It was a picture at the BART station, and I clone myself as the train arrives: there's one waiting for another train, one just entering the train, and one already sitting down on the train. If anyone wants to waste a day with me taking pictures at the BART station, and they have a tripod, leave me a comment. Probably not though.

On a completely unrelated topic, I watched TransAmerica the other day at Cynthia Fuentes' room. Scariest movie ever! but for all the wrong reasons. I highly recommend this movie, but it requires an open mind.

When people read my blog, does anyone actually click on the links that I put throughout the post? Please let me know, because if not, they are really hard to put in because of the bad way Xanga implements their word processing. I swear, I might as well type this into Word, because it has spell check and better URL services. And also if not, please click them. They lead to interesting places to get random information.

Well, that's all I have for now.

Cheers
-Lex

P.S. See above if you want my random link.

Norris vs. Rogers

Real quick post today.

I read this on Penny Arcade, and thought it was hilarious.

I understand that the International Cyber Web is in the throes of Norris Mania, his acts of heroism and terrible violence, his healing fluids, but to the best of my knowledge Charles Norris can't cook a chicken using only his voice.

Cheers,
-Lex

P.S. I got nothing. Sorry.

Funny?

*As a disclaimer, I do not own any of the characters or likenesses below, nor am I making any money off of them. This is just for fun.

More Digg stories to blog on...

This time, it's an article that argues that the Garfield comic strip is funnier without Garfield's thought bubbles. That article claims that the thought bubbles beat a dead horse, and that most of the time Garfield's actions explain his thoughts well enough. In fact, sometimes in gives the joke a whole new dimension. They had other pictures at the website, but I tried to find another example they didn't use. Going through that archive to find one that works was stupid, but here are the results:

Funny, right? Yeah....I didn't think so either. But now try it:

Better, but probably not "A" material. I thought this was interesting.

That's all I had. I promise the next one will be better.

P.S.: Not for the faint of heart.

Cloning Made Simple

A lot of what I've been planning to blog about seems to come from Digg, so if you don't want to listen to what I have to say, then go get the RSS feed from the front page of the website. They have a lot of snazzy stuff. I seriously considered just getting a Blogger account, because they make it so easy to blog about Digg stories on that service. But then I remembered that Google owns that, so I was really hesitant. I really like Gmail, and the little extras they have, like Gmail Notifier, but the rest of their services haven't really gotten a good response out of me (Google Talk, anyone?). Maybe I should though, because Google just threw a bunch of money at Blogger and bought them, so it really isn't the Google engineers that can mess it up.

Anyway....

I found this really neat tutorial the other day for cloning yourself into photographs. I think it might have been originally on Lifehacker, but I don't remember. I know, not exactly an earthshattering discovery, or even relatively new for that matter, but I say, "Meh." I thought it was really cool, and I've been working on some new ones. You can go to my Facebook account <shameless plug> if you want to see my first successful try. I don't use Photoshop, because it's expensive and unavailable, so I used The GIMP. It's a little open-source image modification application. I heard about it first on Attack of the Show, and that was something that really stuck.

OMG! THERE'S THREE OF THEM!

If you want me to help you make one, please feel free to ask. Eventually, I want to start a Facebook group of pictures like this, even though there probably already is one. At the very least, I want to make an album with all my friends making pictures like this. I saw a Flickr group about this from the link above, so they are forming unions.

The thing I really want that's kind of like this is OS X only though. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the name of the application was, but it basically allowed you to make comic books out of all your digital pictures. It had really simple ways to insert thought bubbles and commentary on your albums, or put amazing filters that make it look all cartoon-like. I think it's a great way to share your photos (albeit really nerdy), and it would be cool to make calanders for family and friends. Even better, rather than just sitting at a table to show photos of your recent vacation, why not make a comic of it with a story? If anyone remembers what the program was called, or even think it's a neat idea, please post in the comments.

If anyone knows how to make little text boxes appear when you mouse over pictures or links, then please someone tell me. It's probably an option of xanga, but I'm not sure.

Note: I'll try to make this little fun thing at the end of posts a tradition. [FakePurseNinja, this is for you.]
